The Backstory

High Noon and Salt River are two family-owned businesses that operate amid six hectares of garden madness at the southern base of the Kaipara Harbour.

Tim Rose and Helen Smyth bought the property in 2011. They consider it something of a conservation project and have spent the years since becoming friends with the botanical community that knows and stays in touch with the garden, along with their ongoing work identifying and categorising the plants.

Tim, co-founder of Havana Coffee Works, designed and built the original hot air roasters that set Havana on its juggernaut. For High Noon, Tim has adapted a classic Vittoria roaster to suit his own personal roasting style.

Tim and Helen manage the roastery alongside the subtropical gardens and year-round productive orchard.
